Dead Because Of Eating Crab

This article really caught my attention and I want to share with anyone who likes to eat seafood. I mean why people are still eating deadly seafood? Do they really want to take risk enjoying food or want to play with their life? Maybe you have read/heard about this story, but people tend to have forgotten when they see something yummy on their table. So I think no harm to read again as a reminder to anyone who reading this now.

This happened last February, a 83 year old Mr Tan, who was preparing a meal of crab for his family, he nicked a finger. As any man might do, he put a bandage on the little wound, and continued his work. By midnight, he was vomiting and suffering from diarrhoea. Though his condition persisted, he remained stoic, refusing to see doctor or go to hospital, until his wife at last called their son, who then told his sister to call an ambulance.

By then it was too late, the doctors took his arm below the elbow in a drastic bid to stop the infection that had by then spread throughout his body, causing his blood pressure to drop dangerously and his organs to fail. Antibiotics at maximum dosage failed to stem the infection and Mr Tan soon succumbed.

A mere 48 hours later it was over. Later, it was found that Tan had been infected by a species of bacteria typically found in both fresh and salt water, some species of which are known to cause food poisoning from eating undercooked seafood. While a rare occurrence, the bacteria, have also known to infect humans directly through wounds such as tiny prick Mr Tan suffered prior to the onset of his condition.

People have long been aware of the dangers of this particular 'flesh eating' bug, and they know it isn't always a good idea to eat raw seafood, whether they ever heard of this bacteria or not. But dying from the infection has long been compared to being struck by lightening, you might know it can happen, you might know it can be deadly, but you never quite believe it can happen to you or someone you know.
