Do You Really Know What Is Vegetarian?

The Meaning Of Vegetarian

A Vegetarian is someone who does not consume meat, fish, fowl, poultry, shellfish, or any food derived from animals or anything being slaughtered or any flesh foods.

A Vegetarian is someone who eats vegetables, fruits, grain, nuts, seeds, beans, etc and with or without any dairy products or eggs.

There are three types of Vegetarian
  1. Lacto-ovo-vegetarian, is someone who eats both dairy products and eggs. This is the most common type of vegetarian diet.
  2. Lacto-vegetarian, is someone who eats dairy products but not eggs.
  3. Vegan, is someone who does not eat dairy products, eggs, or any other animal product.

I am the Lacto-ovo-vegetarian type, I do consume eggs, dairy products, but I don't eat garlic, onion, spring onion or plants that being categorised as type of garlic and onion.

It's convenient to find vegetarian foods here in Asia or in Singapore alone. Because they know which type of vegetarian you are, and most of the food stores will ask if you do consume egg or not.

Unlike in Europe countries, they don't know for some vegetarian people who cant consume onion and garlic, and when they said it's a vegetarian food which also including onion and garlic. I experienced myself when I was studying aboard in Melbourne, quite hard for me to find vegetarian foods, I have to be extra careful about everything I eat, which I have to ask about the ingredients before I dare to eat.
